An innovative high-tech company in the Southampton area is looking for a hands-on Test Engineer / Technician to join its growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a rapidly expanding business developing cutting-edge chemical sensor technology used for pollutant and water quality monitoring in environmental and industrial applications.
You’ll be working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment alongside experts in engineering, chemistry, and electronics — contributing to the development and testing of advanced sensor systems that make a real impact on environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities of the Test Engineer:
- Assemble, test, and calibrate sensor products to meet technical specifications.
- Build and maintain test and calibration rigs to support product validation.
- Conduct quality checks, reliability testing, and sensor conditioning.
- Assist with the repair and assessment of returned devices.
- Work closely with engineering and chemistry teams to ensure smooth production workflows.
- Support customer equipment installations and field deployments when required.
- Maintain compliance with company quality management systems (ISO 9001 & 14001).
About You:
You’re a practical, detail-oriented technician or engineer who enjoys hands-on technical work and problem-solving. You take pride in precision and quality, and you’re keen to develop your career within an innovative, high-growth technology business.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Qualification and/or experience in engineering, technical disciplines, or chemistry (Degree, HND/HNC, BTEC, or apprenticeship).
- Strong practical and technical skills, with experience in hands-on engineering tasks.
- Excellent attention to detail and a structured approach to work.
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Quick learner, adaptable, and comfortable with new processes or technologies.
- A collaborative team player with good communication skills.
- Full right to work in the UK.
Desirable:
- Industry experience in sensors, water, or environmental technology.
- Experience working under quality management systems (ISO 9001 / 14001).
- Valid UK driver’s licence.
- Experience working with chemicals or reagent preparation.
