We are currently recruiting for an experienced Business Rates Officer to join a busy Revenues team within a local authority environment.

You will play a key role in the administration, billing, collection and recovery of Non-Domestic Rates (NNDR), ensuring accuracy, compliance with legislation, and maximising income collection for the Council.

📌 Key Responsibilities

* Administer the billing, collection and recovery of Business Rates

* Maintain and update Business Rates records to ensure accurate billing and collection

* Open, close and amend Business Rates accounts

* Process payments and set up Direct Debits

* Apply reliefs, exemptions and discounts in line with legislation

* Review, check and authorise refunds and adjustments

* Maintain and update rating lists and property records

* Trace absconded debtors and take appropriate recovery action

* Determine and implement the most appropriate recovery action for outstanding debts

* Deliver a high standard of customer service when dealing with enquiries

✅ Requirements

* Proven experience working in Business Rates (NNDR) within a local authority

* Strong knowledge of billing, collection and recovery processes

* Experience using MRI / Capita Academy (Revenues & Benefits system)

* Ability to manage a varied caseload and work to deadlines

* Good understanding of Business Rates legislation and procedures

* Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

* Excellent communication and customer service skills

💡 Desirable

* Experience dealing with complex recovery cases or enforcement

* Knowledge of Valuation Office Agency processes / rating list changes

* Previous experience in a Revenues or Finance team within local government
