About the Role
P4 is working with a well-established and growing provider of children’s residential care is seeking an experienced and passionate Deputy Manager to support the effective running of a 3-bed therapeutic children’s home for young people aged 10-18 who have experienced trauma, abuse, and neglect.
This role is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills and a trauma-informed approach, who is committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people. Working closely with the Registered Manager, the Deputy Manager will support the day-to-day running of the home, develop the care team, and ensure a nurturing and safe environment for the young people.
Key Responsibilities, Leadership & Management

Deputise for the Home Manager during absence, ensuring continuity of care and operational stability.

Support the implementation of the home’s Statement of Purpose and ensure the service aligns with relevant legislation and Quality Standards.

Promote a culture of empathy, reflection, and resilience in line with trauma-informed approaches (PACE).

Lead staff during shifts, providing supervision, guidance, and development to residential care workers.

Participate in the on-call rota and help establish a robust support system for the care team.
Child-Centred Practice

Engage directly with young people, supporting their emotional and behavioural development.

Contribute to and review care plans, risk assessments, and placement documents.

Attend professional meetings and advocate on behalf of young people.

Promote independence and life skills, including budgeting, self-care, and healthy routines.

Monitor and support safeguarding procedures and ensure all incidents are recorded and acted upon appropriately.
Staff Support & Development

Provide formal and informal supervision, coaching, and mentoring to the care team.

Promote high standards of practice and professionalism across the home.

Chair team meetings and contribute to staff training and performance development.

Assist in recruitment, induction, and probation reviews.
Operational Duties

Oversee daily rotas, shift planning, and staff deployment.

Support with audits (including Regulation 45), inspections, and quality assurance.

Ensure all financial and administrative procedures are followed.

Assist with action plans, compliance, and home development goals.
Health & Safety
Person Specification, Essential
-
Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)

At least 2 years’ experience in a children’s residential setting

Experience supporting or leading shifts

Strong understanding of safeguarding, trauma, and child development

Effective communication, leadership, and organisational skills

Flexible, empathetic, and resilient character
Desirable

Level 5 Leadership & Management (or working towards)
