Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, Negotiable

The Opportunity: A unique and exciting opportunity to become the pivotal person in a progressive and forward-thinking dairy enterprise. We are searching for a highly experienced Herd Manager to take ownership of a herd achieving 10,000 litres mainly off forage. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and performance of the herd and be happy to manage a small team and confident to lead change in the business to aid business growth and development.

Role Responsibilities:

  • The day-to-day management of the dairy herd to achieve optimum results and performance
  • To manage the milking routine, production levels and milk quality of the herd
  • To monitor the herd health and well-being e.g. routine vet visits, vaccinations
  • To manage the breeding programme and the management of calves and youngstock
  • To maintain accurate and up-to-date records on herd health, milk production and breeding
  • To maintain a high level of health and safety and ensure compliance with industry regulations
  • To proactively manage a small team

Skills you will need:Essential:

  • Extensive experience in milking cattle
  • Practical knowledge and experience of dairy farm duties e.g. DIY AI, foot trimming, calving
  • The ability and enthusiasm to lead and manage a team effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Driven and committed with a positive mindset to health and safety and animal welfare
  • Strong organisational skills
  • A problem solver, with the ability to resolve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Resilient and flexible to support the daily needs of the business
  • Happy to embrace change, invest your time and grow with the business
  • Works well in a team and autonomously when required
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Previous experience of managing a team

Remuneration:An excellent salary commensurate with candidate’s experience, plus a 3 bed house if required.
