For almost three decades, CrossReach has supported families experiencing the impact of perinatal mental health difficulties. Our Perinatal Service provides counselling alongside a crèche service, allowing parents and carers to attend therapy while their babies and young children are cared for in a safe and supportive environment.

We are currently looking for volunteers to join our crèche team. As a volunteer, you will help create a calm, welcoming space for children aged up to five while their parent or carer attends counselling.

What your time could involve

• Setting up and tidying the crèche space before and after sessions
• Welcoming parents, carers and children in a warm and reassuring way
• Creating a safe, nurturing and engaging environment for young children
• Playing and interacting with children through age appropriate activities
• Following codes of confidentiality, conduct and health and safety procedures

What you will gain

You will gain valuable experience working within a therapeutic environment supporting families affected by perinatal mental health challenges.

You will receive training in Understanding Perinatal Mood Disorders and a full induction to the crèche environment before beginning your volunteer role. You will be part of a supportive team committed to creating a positive and reassuring experience for families accessing the service.

About you

You will bring a caring and compassionate approach and a genuine interest in supporting young children. You will be patient, calm and able to build positive relationships with children, parents and fellow volunteers.

You will be reliable, able to work well as part of a team and willing to learn. An understanding of basic childcare practice is helpful but not essential, and childcare qualifications are not required.

You should be comfortable supporting children’s practical care needs where required and able to maintain a positive and supportive attitude when working with young children.
