Dalton Recruitment has a new and very exciting opportunity available with one of its top clients for a People Operations Manager for its UK business. Joining their People team based in Woking, Surrey and reporting to the European Head of People Operations, the People Operations Manager will play an essential role in the delivery of a first class operational HR service across its UK employees and business leaders.

With a team of three reporting to you, you will play a key part in resolving complex employee relations cases, strengthening partnerships with Trade Unions, reviewing and updating policies and procedures, supporting the annual pay review and managing the HR administration for the UK.

As a general rule the position will require 4 days/week in the Woking offices with one day working from home with some ad hoc flexibility. There will also be the need for some travel to their other sites which may require overnight stays although this will be minimal and with notice.

The role offers a competitive salary and package including car allowance & bonus.

Responsibilities Include:

Industrial Relations

  • Lead on providing an annual calendar of employee consultation activities.
  • Lead with the annual UK&I Pay review.
  • Prepare presentations, policies, guidance ready for JCC and the bi-annual EWC meetings.
  • Ensure any serious IR issues are escalated to the European Head of People Operations
  • Maintain a temperature check of all UK&I Industrial Relations activity both internally and externally.
  • Coach other members of the People Team so that they can expand their IR knowledge.
  • Develop robust relationships with the main Trade Union partners and their associated full-time/employee representatives.
  • Ensure that any Recognition Agreements are kept up-to-date and relevant – lead on re-negotiations where applicable.

Employee Relations

  • Lead on employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, performance and flexible working
  • Support the People Services team and Business Leaders to ensure they are equipped with the relevant knowledge to support low-level severance, absence management, grievance and disciplinary issues.
  • Escalate any senior grade roles severance, absence management, grievance and disciplinary issues to the relevant People Business Partners and/or People Director.
  • Maintain accurate reporting of all absence management, grievance and disciplinary issues – create an ER Tracker that the whole team can access and update.
  • Coach other members of the People Team so that they can expand their ER knowledge.

Policy & Process Improvement

  • Review the organisations people policies to ensure they are legally compliant, up to date and meet the needs of the business.
  • Ensure supporting documentation and processes for policies are in place and effective to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Highlight any changes to policies to ensure compliance with required consultation and escalation to ensure that all stakeholders are appropriately communicated.
  • Facilitate workshops and/or training in relation to policy and process and its application within the organisation.
  • Ensure personal behaviours promote cultural change and reflects the values/behaviours of the business.
  • Ensure appropriate change control is in place to ensure all changes are implemented effectively across all stakeholders and requirement governance complied with.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • CIPD qualified (preferably level 7)
  • Degree educated – preferably in either an HR or Law-related subject.
  • Extensive experience of working with UK&I Trade Unions
  • Substantial UK&I ER knowledge, experience, and application
  • Experience of working in a complex, legacy environment
  • Experience of working with and preparing for Employment Tribunals
  • Multi-site experience
  • Strong analytical capability – highly numerate
  • Highly influential, able to persuade and build business cases for presentation at to all groups of employees and TU officials.
  • Demonstrate a transformative outlook which constantly seeks improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching and communication skills, ability to adapt communication and influencing skills as appropriate to positively steer outcomes.

Knowledge & Skills – Desirable:

  • Experience of Oracle and/or other HR IT systems
  • Experience of managing the JCC/EWC
