Electronics Engineer

Solihull

£40,000 - £45,000 basic

We’re working with a well-established engineering firm based in Solihull, and they’re looking for a skilled Electronics Engineer to join their growing team. This is a hands-on role focused on repairing, maintaining, and upgrading portable Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) equipment - ideal for someone with strong PCB repair skills and a background in electronics fault-finding.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Diagnose and repair printed circuit boards (PCBs), control systems, and electronic modules
  • Carry out fault-finding and testing across a range of ITS equipment, including traffic signals and wireless comms units
  • Perform detailed component-level repairs - including soldering, rework, and replacements
  • Use test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analysers, etc.) to verify performance
  • Reverse engineer legacy systems to improve reliability and eliminate recurring issues
  • Support system upgrades and product enhancements across the fleet
  • Keep detailed repair logs and records of component usage
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to support R&D and continuous improvement projects
  • Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and compliance

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in electronics repair and troubleshooting (preferably in ITS, traffic signals, or similar)
  • Excellent PCB repair skills including soldering, component replacement, and circuit testing
  • Confident working with microcontrollers, RF systems, sensors, and power electronics
  • Ability to read and understand electronic schematics and technical documentation
  • Familiar with test and measurement equipment used in diagnostics and validation
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team

Desirable extras:

  • Knowledge of low-power or battery-operated systems
  • Experience working on traffic management systems, LED displays, or industrial controls
  • Understanding of wireless technologies (e.g. radio, GSM, LoRa)

Qualifications:

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related fiel
