Job Title: Senior EngineerDepartment: Rail and Transport SystemsReporting to: Project ManagerLocation: Ashby-de-la-ZouchJob Purpose Responsible for developing specifications, producing engineering designs, and supporting site activities including testing and commissioning. The role also involves managing technical interfaces and maintaining strong client relationships.Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engineering solutions across SCADA, BMS, SISS ( Panorama or Iconics, WINCC or MEIDS ideally) , and mobile systems.
  • Produce designs, drawings, and technical documentation to meet customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with QHSE, CDM, and relevant rail standards.
  • Review technical specifications and provide support to clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Support project delivery, ensuring progress, quality, and financial targets are met.
  • Investigate and resolve site issues, implementing corrective actions and sharing lessons learned.
  • Assist with bids, quotations, and client proposals.
  • Carry out site surveys, installation, testing, and commissioning activities as required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and support team development.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry developments and technologies.
Skills & Experience
  • Experience in rail control systems engineering.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards (BS, ISO, safety, CDM, rail standards).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to design systems and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with engineering software/tools (e.g. MS Office, CAD, Visio).
  • Programming/configuration experience (e.g. C, Visual Basic, PLC/HMI systems) desirable.
  • Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND/BEng) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good time management and ability to prioritise workload effectively.
Working Hours
  • 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Flexible working between 07:00–18:00 (core hours apply)
