The Role:

Our client is looking for a passionate and experienced Functional Skills English Tutor to join their team.

Their centre supports young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including learners with complex needs such as: Autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, Dyslexia, Global developmental delay, Severe learning difficulties and Social communication difficulties.

This is not a mainstream teaching role. Learners may work at a slower pace and require additional support with communication, behaviour, and emotional regulation.

As the Functional Skills English Tutor you will deliver Functional Skills English (Entry Level 1-3 and Level 1-2) in small groups of up to 12 learners, creating engaging lessons tailored to individual learning needs.

Functional Skills English Tutor - Key Responsibilities:

* Plan and deliver Functional Skills English lessons across Entry Level and Level 1-2.

* Differentiate teaching to support learners with diverse needs.

* Develop schemes of work and engaging lesson plans.

* Deliver creative and practical learning activities.

* Conduct diagnostic assessments and track learner progress.

* Prepare learners for Functional Skills examinations.

* Maintain accurate records of progress and achievement.

* Support learners to build confidence, independence, and employability skills.

* Work closely with the Quality Assurance Team to maintain high teaching standards.

* Safeguard learners and follow safeguarding and Prevent policies.

* Maintain professional development in line with Functional Skills requirements.

Essential Requirements

* A recognised teaching qualification (AET, CertEd, PGCE or equivalent)

* English qualification at Grade C/4 or Functional Skills Level 2

* Assessor qualification

* Experience teaching learners with additional learning needs

* Experience supporting learners with learning differences or SEND

Desirable

* SEN qualification

* Knowledge or experience of EHCPs
