Overview

As Converter Engineering Manager, you will lead the technical development and delivery of new HVDC converter stations across the interconnector portfolio. This includes developing the project technical definition, managing the engineering scope from early concept through FEED, procurement, and into delivery.

You will ensure converter systems are designed and integrated to meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements, working closely with OEMs, internal teams, and European partners.

Spec

Lead the converter station engineering scope across development and delivery phases.
Manage technical interfaces between OEMs, civil contractors, and internal engineering disciplines.
Develop and review converter station specifications, design criteria, and performance requirements.
Interface with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
Work with the Global Procurement team through to support procurement activities by preparing technical documentation, evaluating bids, and responding to supplier queries for main civils contracts.
Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, planning requirements, and environmental standards.
Represent NGV in technical meetings, design reviews, and stakeholder engagements.
Provide input to cost estimates, schedules, and risk assessments.
Maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental performance in all activities.
Produce reports, presentations as required to support key decision points and capture analysis, designs and lessons learned
Leading and managing the HVDC converters engineering team

Skills and Knowledge

In-depth knowledge of HVDC converter station design, technologies (VSC/LCC), and integration.
Experience managing OEMs and complex technical interfaces in large infrastructure projects.
Understanding of UK and European grid codes and interconnection requirements.
Knowledge of Systems engineering, control engineering, FMECA, power system engineering, system studies/simulation
Experience leading FEED or early-stage design phases of large-scale projects.
Skilled in project management, including scope, cost, schedule, and risk control.
