Our client is a leading health, safety and environmental consultancy. As part of their continued growth, they have an exciting opportunity for a newly created Health and Safety Advisor with a construction background to support their network of clients, predominantly in the construction sector.

The Health and Safety Advisor will be responsible for providing professional advise on health and safety and compliance across various sites and projects, but predominantly in the North West region. The role involves the daily client facing on construction sites, reporting on all health and safety requirements supporting the development and implementation of safety systems and policies, providing relevant training, performing audits and inspections, undertaking risk assessments, reporting on fire safety matters and supporting the continual improvement of fire safety arrangements and systems.

Reporting to the Operations Director, the successful candidate will have experience in the construction site environment. You must be able to demonstrate your knowledge of current legislative regulatory requirements and how these are applied in a practical manner; all statutory standards and guidance associated with construction safety and fire risk management in the construction industry, health and safety and manual handling; and best practice in health and safety.

Strong organisation, verbal and written communication skills are essential for this role, with an ability to motivate others. Candidates must be confident in their approach and have the ability to get buy in to health and safety campaigns and SSOW from operatives at trade level and equally as confident to report back to senior management level.

Purpose of the role

To attend client sites and clear and concise safety advice and guidance
To support the development and implementation of fire safety policies and procedures
To review the implementation of the safety policy, fire management arrangements and risk assessments, ensuring statutory compliance
To carry out safety audits and inspections to numerous construction sites and associated offices
To clearly provide fire safety advice and investigate incidents
To prepare and issue reports detailing recommendations on a timely basis
To liaise as required with external organisations as required
To maintain an up-to-date professional knowledge
To undertake other activities as required by the Operations DirectorPerson specification

Construction and fire experience/practice with a sound working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and CDM regulations
Significant experience of completing audits and fire risk assessments, ideally in the construction environment
Experience of writing reports that are suitable for presentation at director level
Experience of influencing to implement best practice and continuous improvement

Skills, knowledge and abilities

A motivated self-starter with excellent organisational, effective communication and presentation skills
Excellent report writing skills
Comprehensive knowledge of construction related statutory and legislative obligations and experience in ensuring those obligations are met
Holding and chairing health and safety meetings for clients
Experience in the area of construction/fire safety
Confident with the ability to gain respect and influence operatives and managers in order to ensure consistency and compliance across the client sites
Ability to develop and communicate plans and campaigns, including briefing and managing third parties to deliver tactical elements and measuring results
IT literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Power Point, Word & Excel
Full UK driving licenceQualifications

Professional qualification in a safety related subject (NEBOSH General/construction or equivalent)
Professional qualification in a fire safety related subject (NEBOSH Fire or equivalent)
Membership of a recognised, professional body (e.g. IOSH, IFE, IFSM)
