The Role

A project-focused Payroll Workstream Lead role responsible for leading the implementation of a new in-house payroll system, transitioning from an outsourced model.

You'll take ownership of system configuration, testing, and deployment, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and seamless integration with HR and Finance systems. This role will evolve into a key position within the internal payroll function post-implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Lead payroll system implementation, configuration, and deployment

*

Manage project timelines and key deliverables

*

Oversee data migration, mapping, and reconciliation

*

Conduct system testing, including User Acceptance Testing (UAT)

*

Run parallel payrolls to ensure accuracy pre-go-live

*

Design and improve payroll processes and workflows

*

Ensure compliance with HMRC, pensions, and statutory regulations

*

Identify and mitigate project risks

*

Deliver training and create system documentation

*

Collaborate with HR, Finance, and key stakeholders

The Ideal Candidate

*

Strong payroll experience (approx. 7+ years) in in-house or outsourced environments

*

Proven experience in payroll implementation or transformation projects

*

Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC, pensions, and statutory payments

*

Excellent project management and stakeholder management skills

*

Advanced Excel skills (data analysis, reconciliation, mapping)

*

Analytical, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities

*

Strong communication skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders

*

High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail
