Make a Real Difference in the Lives of Children and Families We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) / Case Conference Chair to join our dedicated Safeguarding, Performance & Quality Unit in Swansea. In this pivotal role, you will provide independent oversight of care and protection plans, ensuring the safety, well-being, and rights of children and young people are always at the forefront of our work.
Key Responsibilities
🔹 Chairing statutory reviews for looked-after children and child protection case conferences in line with the Adoption and Children Act 2002 and All Wales Child Protection Procedures
🔹 Monitoring the effectiveness of care and protection plans and ensuring timely progress toward permanence and safety
🔹 Advising and Supporting staff and professionals involved in safeguarding and care planning
🔹 Engaging with children, families, and carers to ensure their voices are central to decision-making
🔹 Contributing to the development of policies, quality assurance systems, and good practice within children's services
🔹 Reporting on practice and procedural issues to promote continuous service improvementWhat We're Looking For
A qualified Social Worker registered with Social Care Wales
A minimum of three years' post-qualifying experience in a statutory or voluntary child care setting
Strong understanding of relevant legislation, guidance, and policy relating to children looked after and child protection
Experience in chairing inter-agency meetings and working in multi-disciplinary environments
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly
A confident, independent decision-maker with emotional intelligence and a child-centered approachAdditional Requirements
Use of own vehicle (or effective alternative travel arrangements)
Enhanced DBS check required
