A well-established and expanding M&E contractor is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing in-house design team. Working closely with the Design Manager, you'll be responsible for producing technically sound and energy-efficient mechanical designs across a range of education, commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments.

You'll play a hands-on role in the design process from Stage 3/4 onwards—creating detailed layouts, calculations, specifications, and modelling reports using industry-standard software. This role suits a technically capable engineer who enjoys responsibility, is passionate about low-carbon design, and is confident managing their own workload within a collaborative team.

Key responsibilities

*

Produce mechanical designs, specifications, calculations and schedules in line with project requirements

*

Review contract documentation, Stage 4/5 requirements and ensure technical compliance

*

Support internal and external coordination with project teams, consultants and clients

*

Monitor drawing production and review for technical accuracy and consistency prior to issue

*

Attend site surveys, capturing data using Lidar scanning and converting into usable design input

*

Contribute to energy modelling assessments and sustainability-driven design documentation

*

Respond to design RFIs and maintain clear records of revisions and decision-making

*

Support the wider team in ensuring design work is delivered on time and to high quality standards

What we're looking for

*

Degree (or equivalent) in Building Services Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

*

Demonstrable experience in mechanical design within the building services sector

*

Proficiency in relevant software tools such as Revit, Hevacomp, and AutoCAD

*

Good understanding of current Building Regulations and sustainable design principles

*

Passion for low-carbon, energy-efficient system design

*

Ability to plan and manage multiple projects concurrently

*

Strong written and verbal communication skills

*

Full UK driving licence
