The Commercial and Creative Industries at Carshalton College are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Technician/Instructor in Media.
You’ll be competent in all aspects of Media, including managing and maintaining a multi-camera TV Studio (lighting rig, sound desk, vision-mixer), sound booth, control room and edit suites. You’ll be proficient in using lighting, sound and a range of broadcast cameras and film grip equipment along with strong video and audio editing skills, and a good understanding of VFXs and graphics for moving image.
The primary responsibility will be to maintain the equipment and fittings of the Media Studios and assist and support academic staff during formal classes and instruct, supervise or assess individual students or groups of students with or without a member of teaching staff present. Approximately one third of hours will be acting as an Instructor to students and approximately two thirds of hours will be undertaking duties as a Technician.
We’re looking for someone with experience in the use of equipment within this area, able to maintain tools and equipment and the ability to explain, simplify and exemplify complicated technical techniques and terms to beginners. You’ll be a proficient user of: Premiere CC, After Effects, Photoshop, Animate CC, Illustrator and Maya, able to troubleshoot mac hardware and software particularly Creative Cloud and Maya.
You’ll hold a formal technical and/or educational qualification, a valid First Aid at Work Certificate (or willing to work towards) and have experience and knowledge of sound recorders, microphones and boom poles. You’ll be experienced in lighting, sound and vision mixing including green screen, bugs, dve and keys along with rigging lights, cameras, sliders, jibs and grip equipment. With good IT skills, you’ll be able to manage time, priorities and work well under pressure and to agreed deadlines.
The successful candidate will be eligible for any increase in salary as a consequence of the annual cost of living review that will be implemented in the new academic year.
