Salary: Up to £45,000
Monday - Friday | 8am - 5pm
25 Days Annual Leave + Bank Holidays

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Mechanical Engineer to support a busy site, carrying out a wide range of mechanical maintenance tasks with a strong focus on reactive callouts due to the scale and high activity level of the location.

Purpose of the Job

To provide mechanical engineering support across the site, ensuring all mechanical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in line with service expectations.

To complete both planned maintenance and reactive repairs as required.

To undertake multi-skilled duties where competent, supporting the delivery of a seamless maintenance service.

To proactively identify plant issues, defects, or performance concerns and escalate them appropriately.

To support site safety and operational continuity by responding to urgent callouts and following agreed procedures.

The role may also include Assisting with minor repairs, small works, and system improvements relating to mechanical plant.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out maintenance across a range of mechanical systems.

Complete reactive callouts—this will make up the majority of the daily workload due to site demand.

Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities.

Perform routine and reactive mechanical tasks to high standards.

Support safe isolation and reinstatement of systems where trained and authorised.

Ensure all staff and contractors follow site safety, security, and compliance procedures.

Participate in ongoing training to enhance technical skills and progression opportunities.

Communicate clearly and professionally with the client and the engineering management team.

Work collaboratively with other engineers to share technical knowledge and maintain strong team performance.

Cover colleague duties during periods of absence.

Conduct condition assessments and report defects or plant deterioration.

Log incidents and defects with full documentation of actions taken.

Update maintenance records and site documentation as required.

Review contractor work to ensure high quality and correct completion.

Support small works, material sourcing, and basic planning tasks.

Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety and site-specific procedures.

Personal Experience / Qualifications / Skills

Mechanical engineering qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent.

Strong mechanical maintenance background, ideally within building services, facilities, or plant environments.

Experience working on plant such as calorifiers, AHUs, TMVs, pressurisation units, motors, and associated HVAC components.

Multi-skilled knowledge (electrical, plumbing, fabric) beneficial but not essential.

Ability to work independently in a busy environment with minimal supervision.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Flexible, proactive, and committed to skill development.

Good understanding of Health & Safety and permit-to-work systems.

Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documentation.

Basic computer literacy and experience with maintenance systems desirable.

Willingness to undertake additional training funded by the employer.

Salary up to £45,000

Accountabilities

Accountable to the Contract Manager and Engineering Supervisor.

No direct staff or budget management responsibilities.

Responsible for maintaining suitable stock levels of mechanical spares and consumables
