About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Communication Support Worker (CSW) with strong British Sign Language (BSL) skills to provide in-class and 1:1 support for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students at a welcoming and inclusive college in South East London.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about improving access to education for Deaf learners, ensuring full inclusion and equal participation across all lessons and campus activities.

You'll be supporting students within a variety of subjects, adapting communication methods to suit individual needs and helping to create an engaging, supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide clear and accurate communication support using BSL, lip-reading, and note-taking as appropriate.

Interpret lectures, classroom discussions, and group work to ensure full understanding and participation.

*

Work collaboratively with tutors and support staff to adapt lesson delivery for Deaf learners.

*

Maintain confidentiality and uphold safeguarding standards at all times.

*

Foster independence, confidence, and inclusion for students with hearing loss or communication challenges.

Requirements

*

BSL Level 3 (or currently working towards it) - applicants completing Level 3 will be considered.

*

Proven experience supporting Deaf students within a college, school, or educational environment.

*

Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.

*

Knowledge of inclusive learning and accessibility in Further Education settings.

*

A genuine passion for supporting young people to reach their full potential.
