Payroll Clerk

SALARY: From £20,000 to £25,000 per annum Dependent on Experience


An established and recognisable name within the accounting sector, this client is seeking a payroll clerk to join their established team, providing outsourced payroll support to businesses around the local area and further afield. This payroll job is based in Nantwich, Cheshire, near Crewe.

This is a permanent full time position (37.5 hours) which will demand previous experience of working in a payroll environment. This payroll job will be responsible for assisting with administration and processing of payrolls within a team environment.

The Payroll Job

My client provides an outsourced payroll service to small-medium clients and you will be part of this team. You will be a competent user of STAR Payroll Professional (export and import), process manual payroll, have knowledge of PAYE/NIC, SMP/SAP, SPP and SSP when running payroll, have experience of working with pension auto-enrolment and will have previously managed BACS payments.

Additionally, you will assist with small client setups, proactively develop and keep up to date with new payroll legislation and compliance, carry out payroll reconciliations and analysis with no supervision, liaise with HMRC and assist with more technical enquiries when they arise.

You will use your own initiative to resolve issues and to assist the team where possible, by providing a range of solutions and seeking advice where necessary. It is vital to be successful that you develop and maintain relationships with internal and external contacts at all levels;

The Fit

As is to be expected working within a payroll environment, you will have to have excellent IT skills, in particular in relation to Excel. You will be comfortable in liaising with senior management, colleagues and external clients and stakeholders and will be confident when providing information.

Wages and payroll are integral to any organisation, therefore you will have excellent numeracy skills, as well as a high attention to detail.

Working hours for this position can be flexible to accommodate individual requirements, for instance 0800-1630 or 0900-1730. This is a 37.5 hour a week position.
