Our client innovates, designs, manufactures and installs their own range of CNC machinery for the uPVC double glazing industry. They are the market leader in supplying fully automatic sawing and machining centres for the preparation of window frames with around 300 supported machines in 200 customers, mostly in the UK and Ireland. As Control System Engineer you will provide the technical expertise in the implementation of new and historical control and IT systems, to further improve and develop new products and to support the existing machinery in the field.

The owner and Technical Director of the company, has historically planned, written, supported and developed the control system software for the machines from their first 6502 based processors in 1986, through DOS and Windows, and now implementing Beckhoff TwinCAT2 and 3 PLC coding. The further purpose of the role is to provide a gradual and structured handover of this responsibility to the Control Systems Engineer, ensuring it is documented and organized in the process for others to understand at a later date. This is a long-term role for the right person..

The role is based at their HQ in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, but does involve visits to customer sites across the UK - this is strictly necessary to learn how the machines are operated and sometimes on faults that cannot be diagnosed remotely.


Using TeamViewer and remote diagnostic CCTV cameras:


* Direct customer support for machine IT problems

* Windows problems

* Networking

* Label Printers

* Software Updates

* Support the Service Engineering Team with machine IT/ control system problems


* TwinCAT installations / issues

* TwinSAFE issues

* PLC Software updates

* Assist the Technical Director in implementation of new products and ideas

* Robotic automation in window factories

* IoT interface with Stuga machines for customer performance monitoring, pre-emptive fault diagnosis

* Maintain the company cloud-based support systems and integrations (DeviceMagic, Monday, ScheduleIT, Dokit, Teamviewer)

* Produce documentation to simplify complex tasks for Service Engineer and customer training / reference

* Instruction manual and procedure creation with Dokit

* Vimeo videos

* Provide expert support for commissioning engineers during new machine testing

* Fault finding

* Software implementation and testing

* New feature testing

* Project Management and authoring of replacement PLC code (long term project)
