Assistant Planner

Location: Reading

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a well respected consultancy in their search for an Assistant Planner to join their Reading office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career planning professional to develop their experience within a well-regarded consultancy, working across a varied portfolio of residential, commercial, and mixed-use development projects.

The Role

As an Assistant Planner, you will support senior colleagues in delivering planning advice and managing applications across a range of schemes. You will gain hands-on experience throughout the full planning process, from site appraisals and research to submission and negotiation.

Key Responsibilities

Assisting in the preparation and submission of planning applications and appeals

Undertaking site appraisals and planning policy research

Reviewing Local Plans and development frameworks

Drafting Planning Statements and supporting documents

Liaising with Local Planning Authorities and external consultants

Attending site visits and client meetings where required

Monitoring changes in planning legislation and policy

Candidate Requirements

RTPI-accredited degree in Town Planning or related discipline

Working towards MRTPI Chartership (or willingness to do so)

Previous planning experience (placement or professional) desirable

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Proactive, organised, and keen to develop professionally
