Hours: Full-time, rolling shift pattern of 4 days on, 4 days off to incl. weekends & bank holidays
The role
We are looking for a Mechanical Technician with previous experience to help ensure the safety, reliability and compliance of our critical Infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, water systems and other critical mechanical infrastructure.
We are looking for someone with solid post qualified experience within mechanical building services. You will join a team of established technical and fabric staff, which covers maintenance services across the estate covering a 4 on 4 off shift pattern including (4 on 4 off shifts including a nightshift), 4nights and 4 days rest). The role will be subject to a DBS check.

Key Duties
- Planned Preventative Maintenance - conduct, preventative maintenance schedules for hospital plant and equipment.
- Reactive Maintenance & Repair - diagnosing and repairing failures.
- Statutory Compliance - ensure compliance with applicable HTM statutory regulations and healthcare engineering standards.
- Building Management System - operating and monitoring computerized control systems for environmental control.
- Emergency Response - managing emergency repairs to prevent disruptions in patient care. To act as first responder for any fire activations. (training provided)
- Documentation & Reporting - maintain accurate records of maintenance inspections and repairs
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Completion of a structured training program in mechanical engineering for a minimum of three years.
- Level 4 Higher national Certificate in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering)
- BTEC/HND/HNC qualifications (Level 4/5)
- Good awareness of health & safety legislation and experience of working to safe systems of work.
- Previous experience in industrial or facility maintenance environment
- Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration.
- Good communication skills.
- Preventive and corrective maintenance expertise.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals
- Capable of working in a demand driven service.
- Working to deadlines.
Desirable
- Experience in hospital or healthcare facilities.
- Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, medical gas systems, and refrigeration.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent communication and teamwork ability.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations and standards.
- Piped Medical gas knowledge.
- Competent Person/ Ventilation/ Medical gas / Water Hygiene.
- Legionella Approved Code of practice training.
- Understanding of electrical services and safe working.
- Building Management Systems.
- Experience using PDA handheld device.
