Description

The Director of IT, Architecture and Infrastructure will oversee the strategic planning and operational delivery of the technology infrastructure within the organisation. This role is ideal for a forward-thinking individual with a strong background in IT architecture and infrastructure management.

Main responsibilities / duties

Technology Strategy & Architecture Roadmap

  • Work with the Director of IT to co-create a forward-looking, business-aligned technology strategy that sets a clear direction for IT.
  • Design an enterprise architecture roadmap that is scalable, secure, and adaptive to changing organisational needs.
  • Ensure technology decisions support service delivery, data-driven operations, and long-term cost efficiency.

Technology Governance & Operating Model Transformation

  • Standardise and simplify technology governance, policies, and processes to reflect a modern, strategic IT function.
  • Embed frameworks such as:
  • ISO/IEC 27001: The international standard for information security management systems (ISMS), ensuring data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library): A framework for standardising IT service management practices and aligning them with business needs.
  • Shift IT's organisational role from a back-office support service to an integrated business enabler.

Support Key Change Programmes & Technical Delivery Oversight

  • Provide expert guidance on the technology workstream within the Finance ERP transformation programme.
  • Lead platform rationalisation initiatives to reduce cost and complexity.
  • Oversee the consolidation of the IT environment, supporting migration towards a unified operating ecosystem (currently a mix of Microsoft and Google platforms).

Relationship Management

  • Lead and be responsible for overall implementation of the architecture and technology deliverables, fostering a culture of collaboration across IT and business teams to identify and address IT business needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritise user requirements, addressing them effectively.

Finance

  • Oversee delivery of financial business cases to reduce IT costs.

Profile

Experience:

  • Experience in tender negotiation and IT purchasing
  • Experience in supplier and contract management and reviewing performance against SLAs
  • Experienced in developing strong working relationships with key external partners
  • Experience in implementing IT strategies
  • Experienced in running and managing IT infrastructure, application, and network services
  • Ensuring organisation-wide compliance with information security and governance policies
  • ITIL / ISO 20000 / ISO 9001 experience
  • Experience in similar organisation structures (many sites and geographically spread)
  • Experience of upper mid / large enterprise IT service provision
  • Experienced in running and managing outsourced IT services

Skills and Abilities:

  • IT Service Management

  • Proven ability in the development and implementation of information security and information governance policies, procedures, and mechanisms
  • Proven ability to implement effective disaster recovery and business continuity plans
  • High degree of analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including those with and without IT expertise
  • Strong prioritisation skills with the ability to manage competing demands
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent written, communication, presentation, and influencing skills
  • Demonstrates a range of appropriate leadership and ambassadorial skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • This remains a "hands-on" role, not purely management
