Estimator / Quantity Surveyor
Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 (depending on experience)
Sector: Residential & Refurbishment

The Role
An established and growing residential construction company based in St Albans is seeking an experienced Estimator / Quantity Surveyor. The role will focus on residential new build and refurbishment projects, supporting the commercial function from tender stage through to final account.

This position would suit a commercially aware professional with experience in residential or refurbishment works who is looking to join a stable business with clear progression opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

* Prepare accurate estimates and tenders for residential and refurbishment projects

* Carry out quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications

* Price labour, materials, and subcontract packages

* Assist with subcontractor and supplier procurement

* Manage cost control, valuations, variations, and final accounts

* Monitor budgets and report cost versus value

* Liaise with site teams, clients, consultants, and subcontractors

* Support commercial reporting and forecasting

Requirements

* Previous experience in an Estimator or Quantity Surveyor role within residential and/or refurbishment projects

* Strong understanding of construction methods and costs

* Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and scopes of work

* Good commercial awareness and attention to detail

* Strong communication and organisational skills

* Competent in Excel and relevant estimating/QS software
