Finance Assistant

Dorking | Office-based | £30,000–£35,000 | Full-time | Permanent

I’m currently supporting a valued client in Dorking who is looking to appoint a Finance Assistant to join their organisation on a permanent, full-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong financial administration experience who enjoys a varied role that combines finance, office administration, and front-of-house duties.

The position is fully office-based and would suit an organised, detail-driven individual who thrives in a busy, people-focused environment.

The Role

Finance Administration

  • Processing transactional accounting using Xero and related systems
  • Setting up new supplier accounts and handling invoices, payments, and receipts.
  • Reconciling supplier statements and bank accounts, addressing any discrepancies.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and organised filing systems.
  • Supporting fee administration, including billing, collection, reconciliation, and liaison with external authorities.
  • Assisting with cashflow reporting, budget monitoring, financial analysis, and general support to the Head of Finance & Operations.
  • Completing balance sheet reconciliations and supporting internal/external audit processes.
  • Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal policies while handling sensitive information with confidentiality.

Administration & Office Support

  • Assisting with inventory management, stock control, and ordering supplies.
  • Providing administrative support across the organisation.
  • Ensuring all administrative processes align with organisational expectations and policies.

Reception & Front-of-House (initial phase)

  • Managing a professional and welcoming reception area.
  • Handling incoming calls and emails, directing enquiries appropriately.
  • Building positive relationships with colleagues, visitors, and external partners.

About You

Essential skills & experience:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (Grade 5+).
  • Strong ICT skills — ideally with experience in Google Workspace and administrative systems.
  • Experience in a finance or administrative role with working knowledge of financial processes.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, GDPR, and data protection.
  • Professional, calm, and confident in a busy environment.
  • Willingness to undertake further professional development.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Xero or similar accounting software.
  • A recognised accounting qualification (e.g., AAT).

If you’re a motivated individual with strong financial skills and a passion for contributing to a positive and supportive organisation, we’d love to hear from you.
