Finance Assistant

I’m currently supporting a valued client in Dorking who is looking to appoint a Finance Assistant to join their organisation on a permanent, full-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong financial administration experience who enjoys a varied role that combines finance, office administration, and front-of-house duties.
The position is fully office-based and would suit an organised, detail-driven individual who thrives in a busy, people-focused environment.
The Role
Finance Administration
- Processing transactional accounting using Xero and related systems
- Setting up new supplier accounts and handling invoices, payments, and receipts.
- Reconciling supplier statements and bank accounts, addressing any discrepancies.
- Maintaining accurate financial records and organised filing systems.
- Supporting fee administration, including billing, collection, reconciliation, and liaison with external authorities.
- Assisting with cashflow reporting, budget monitoring, financial analysis, and general support to the Head of Finance & Operations.
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations and supporting internal/external audit processes.
- Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal policies while handling sensitive information with confidentiality.
Administration & Office Support
- Assisting with inventory management, stock control, and ordering supplies.
- Providing administrative support across the organisation.
- Ensuring all administrative processes align with organisational expectations and policies.
Reception & Front-of-House (initial phase)
- Managing a professional and welcoming reception area.
- Handling incoming calls and emails, directing enquiries appropriately.
- Building positive relationships with colleagues, visitors, and external partners.
About You
Essential skills & experience:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (Grade 5+).
- Strong ICT skills — ideally with experience in Google Workspace and administrative systems.
- Experience in a finance or administrative role with working knowledge of financial processes.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Understanding of confidentiality, GDPR, and data protection.
- Professional, calm, and confident in a busy environment.
- Willingness to undertake further professional development.
Desirable:
- Experience with Xero or similar accounting software.
- A recognised accounting qualification (e.g., AAT).
