Smart Education is currently recruiting for a committed and adaptable Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work within a specialist independent provision in Tyseley. The school supports pupils aged 11 to 16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as additional diagnoses including Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.

This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about working with vulnerable young people in a trauma-informed, therapeutic learning environment.

Job Requirements for this HLTA role in Tyseley:

Minimum Level 3 qualification in education or childcare

At least 1 year of experience supporting children with SEND, particularly SEMH, ASD, or MLD/SLD

Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies

Flexibility, patience, and a nurturing approach

Ability to build trust and positive relationships with students

Experience working in a therapeutic or trauma-informed setting is desirable

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Role Responsibilities:

Support teaching and learning across the curriculum with small groups or 1:1

Assist in behaviour regulation, emotional support, and safeguarding measures

Contribute to lesson planning, resource preparation, and student engagement

Participate in educational trips, lunchtime social groups, and extra-curricular activities

Play a key role in student reflection and therapeutic support sessions

Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to secure positive outcomes

Help develop a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
