Our growing digitisation project team produces data driven applications to improve our current business, and also create new opportunities for our customers in the UK and around the world. The team is part of the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) line of business, which operates across the UK, providing innovative and invaluable support solutions to our customers. We help to ensure the availability of front-line capability wherever and whenever required.

We are looking for someone with a systems or software background to lead a team carrying out activities within the implementation, deployment and support parts of the lifecycle. As the team leader, you will work across diverse areas including Typhoon and helicopter support, process optimisation and data analytics and visualisation.

The work within this team will include:

Turning new designs into products for release to our customers
Adding features and functionality to our existing applications
Enhancing our management information system in terms of technology upgrades
Providing in-service support to our global user base

The work being done within the Digital team is key to the future of the CS3 line of business, and has the potential to make a real difference to the way that we work and the solutions that we're able to offer our customers. This role offers the ability to help shape how we achieve this, as well as having the opportunity to work with the customers to ensure that what we create really meets their needs.

Our team is spread across the UK, and you can be based on any of our main UK sites to do this role.

What you will do

Working alongside internal / external stakeholders, to determine how design requirements can be translated into deliverable products
Working with the customer throughout the development and deployment of products, to ensure that the team delivers what they need, when they need it
Driving the development, verification, validation, acceptance and ongoing support of our products
Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the team, including management of the resources, setting clear goals and deadlines and monitoring performance
Leading resource and technical planning activities within the team
Resolving routine and complex issues, including prioritising activities within the team
Managing and reporting on progress against cost, schedule, risk and maturity measures
Managing the team's workload, and advising on the required size, skills and capability mix to achieve our goals both in the short and longer terms
Promoting a culture of best practice sharing and knowledge exploitation
Participating in continuous improvement activities within the wider team, including examining current tools, processes and ways of working and making recommendations for improvements

What we are looking for

You should have:

Proven experience of team leadership, driving technical delivery alongside proactive people management to create a high-performing team environment
A strong understanding of engineering principles and experience across the lifecycle of product development and delivery
Ability to influence design, implementation and through-life support decisions, both within the internal project team and within the wider stakeholder environment
Self-motivated with a strong aptitude for problem solving and decision-making within projects involving complexity and uncertainty
Experience in and an understanding of the systems, software and/or data science domains
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience of delivery to a variety of internal and external stakeholders of varying levels of seniority
Experience of work package management, cost and schedule planning and tracking, and reporting of key metrics
