Position Announcement 120002 – Vice President, Radio The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is a private, nonprofit corporation created to ensure universal access to non-commercial high-quality programming and telecommunications services. CPB is currently seeking to hire a Vice President, Radio (Level 99). Salary $120,000 – $140,000. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Journalism and Radio. General Description: Works with the SVP of Journalism and Radio to develop, lead and execute strategic initiatives and projects that support a compelling public service vision for public radio and public radio stations in a changing media and civic environment. Communicates and interacts with system leaders, stakeholders, and outside experts to identify and assess system, audience, and community needs and ensures that radio initiatives align with these needs. Further, the VP, Radio monitors trends in technology, business models, and content strategies; collects and analyzes data on the reach and impact of public radio; and identifies opportunities for innovation and audience engagement. The VP, Radio will ensure the department’s activities are closely coordinated with other CPB departments, grant initiatives are effectively managed, and CPB management is appropriately informed of department activities. With the SVP of Journalism and Radio and CPB management, the VP, Radio will develop, plan and carry out periodic system consultations for the Radio Community Service Grant Program, then work to implement any recommendations that result from these consultations. This individual will use effective management and administrative skills to ensure that CPB grant programs fulfill their intended purpose. Specific Duties:
• Works with SVP, Journalism and Radio to formulate a vision and develop strategies and plans to advance public radio’s service to the nation; helps set priorities for grant funding and specific initiatives consistent with CPB Goals and Objectives and annual strategic/business plans.
• Synthesizes and frames information generated through discussion and analysis into proposed strategies and action steps that guide the development and implementation of department projects; assesses project and policy outcomes through the development and use of key performance indicators (KPIs); and tracks progress against strategic goals.
• Oversees the department’s portfolio of grant projects from initial concept through contracting, administration, and grant close-out. Helps to negotiate agreements including timelines, project budgets, and assessment of project or grant initiative impact and effectiveness.
• Ensures that radio grants are appropriately documented and administered, that projects are completed on-time and on-budget, that company information systems are kept up to date. Oversees the work of staff in guiding complex, high profile projects.
• Manages radio department communications internally and externally, serving as a primary resource for providing information for talking points and press releases; develops presentations, board reports, and other documents that effectively capture the activities and strategic priorities of CPB and the department.
• Helps develop strategies and content for radio-related meetings, conferences, and events. This may include directly organizing or managing staff to plan and produce system consultations, proposal review panels, and events at system and public meetings. Represents CPB at national and regional meetings.
• Coordinates with colleagues in other CPB departments and the executive offices, including the Office of the COO. Develops and maintains effective relationships with colleagues across public media including general managers, producers, networks, stations, and industry organizations.
• Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as business management, communications, content development, journalism, or a related field.
• A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in program or grant management, finance/budgeting, or policy development in a significant organization with national reach, including but not limited to public media stations or national or regional public media organizations.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to develop and document concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to formulate initiatives and projects and bring them to successful conclusion.
• Demonstrated ability to manage tasks to completion and to lead a team.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, flexibility and ability to multitask.
• Demonstrated experience negotiating and managing competing interests sensitively and effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to manage research projects and evaluate current projects for their effectiveness.
• Demonstrated communication and event planning skills.
• Solid organizational and analytical skills.
• Superior computer and presentation skills. Desired Qualifications:
• Graduate degree.
• Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating collaborations or building alliances.
• Experience with project management, including project planning, budgeting and grant management either as a grant-maker or a grant recipient in a material relationship with the grant funder.
• Familiarity with public media.
