Location: St Albans

Working Hours:
Option 1: 9:00am - 2:30pm
Option 2: 10:00am - 3:30pm (flexible start available)

Full-Time (5 days per week) - term-time only 

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Unqualified Teacher / Learning Mentor to join our alternative provision in St Albans. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people who may struggle in mainstream education and who thrives in a smaller, relationship-focused learning environment.

Our provision supports students who may face barriers to learning, including behavioural challenges, disengagement from school, or additional social and emotional needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping students re-engage with education through structured learning, mentoring, and positive role modelling.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver and support small-group learning sessions across core subjects and enrichment activities

Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support engagement and personal development

Provide mentoring and pastoral support to help students overcome barriers to learning

Work collaboratively with staff to plan and deliver tailored learning activities

Support behaviour management in a calm, consistent, and supportive manner

Monitor and record student progress and engagement

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Has experience working with young people (schools, youth work, coaching, mentoring, or similar settings)

Is patient, resilient, and able to build strong relationships with students

Can adapt learning to suit different needs and abilities

Is confident managing behaviour positively and professionally

Is organised, reliable, and committed to helping young people succeed

A teaching qualification is not required, but a genuine passion for supporting young people is essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
