Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Systems Engineer will be working with management, engineering, production staff, outside vendors, and IT/ERP resources to define, implement and support a manufacturing execution system (MES). This position involves performing an analysis of potential MES solutions, implementing with stakeholders and implementing the chosen solution across multiple sites. The Systems Engineer will review current operations and work to transfer legacy data and procedures into the chosen system for consistent transparency. The Systems Engineer will develop/maintain training resources and tools and be responsible for site-wide implementation and support and auditability.

REQUIREMENTS
•Bachelor degree in IT or Engineering field
•5+ years experience in a manufacturing environment in an MES-related role
•Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through on process improvement
•Demonstrated success implementing IT system upgrades
•Strong communication skills to work with vendors and internal customers
•In-depth knowledge of MES capabilities and implementation
•Knowledge of SQL and VBA
•Knowledge of CAD and PDM software (SolidWorks preferred)
•Experience with PLC-based process control, automation, and data monitoring
•Experience developing data visualization or processing tools
•Experience working with vendors and negotiating pricing and services
•Must pass background check and drug screen.
•Ability to communicate clearly in English.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees all phases of a project to implement an MES at multiple sites, with updates and training of operators.
  • Uses expert knowledge to identify best MES solution after defining scope of work with key managers and process owners.
  • Identifies areas of need for increased MES capability and creates initiatives to improve manufacturing operations management.
  • Works with process owners to thoroughly document data and recipes from a variety of manufacturing operations.
  • Works with management to develop reporting functionality to understand utilization, work-in-process and process bottlenecks.
  • Takes ownership of projects and manages results from cradle to grave.
  • Works directly with and trains employees (engineers, managers, operators and technicians) on the production floor or in the office.
  • Monitors system performance and work with IT to streamline performance.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Five year technical degree (I.E. bachelors) or equivalent experience required. In such fields such as engineering, science, computer engineering, etc, plus 5 years related experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 0 subordinate supervisor(s) who supervise(s) a total of employee(s). Supervises 0 non-supervisory employee(s). Departments supervised by this position include 0. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Under general supervision where standard practice enables the employee to proceed alone on routine work, referring all questionable cases to supervisor.

USE OF MACHINES, EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS
Regular use of highly complex machines and equipment; specialized or advanced software programs.

PUBLIC CONTACT
Regular contacts with patrons where the contacts are initiated by the employee. Involves both furnishing and obtaining information and, also, attempting to influence the decisions of those persons contacted. Contacts of considerable importance and of such nature, that failure to exercise proper judgment may result in important tangible or intangible losses to the organization.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Bachelor degree in IT or Engineering field

SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED
Advanced: Database, Enterprise Resource Planning, Programming Languages
Intermediate: Word Processing/Typing

ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE SKILLS
•In-depth knowledge of MES capabilities and implementation
•Knowledge of SQL and VBA
•Knowledge of CAD and PDM software (SolidWorks preferred)
