I have partnered with a company in Canterbury who are within the professional service sector, who due to growth are seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager to drive business growth within their firm.

The successful candidate will be adept at identifying new business opportunities, nurturing customer relationships, and forging strategic partnerships. This role is ideal for someone with a background in legal, professional services, or a regulated industry, who is ready to take on strategic challenges and contribute to the firm’s success.

Day to Day Duties of the Business Development Manager:

  • Develop and implement a marketing and business development strategy targeting both existing and potential clients.
  • Conduct thorough research to understand the needs and structures of prospective clients.
  • Plan and execute projects, ensuring successful delivery in line with agreed schedules, quality, and budget.
  • Represent the firm professionally and manage associated activities effectively.
  • Create compelling credentials and pitches, advising partners on strategy for bids and tenders.
  • Identify and exploit opportunities to win work for the firm.
  • Administer the creation of sector-specific content, campaigns, events, and other profile-raising activities.
  • Organise and attend marketing events, recording their uptake and success rate.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to update web pages and social media.

Required Skills & Qualifications of the Business Development Manager:

  • Previous experience in a legal, accountancy, management consultancy, property/construction, financial services firm, or other regulated industry.
  • Proven track record of achieving targets and developing effective strategies within a consultative sales role.
  • Experience working with senior management to understand objectives and negotiate consensus.
  • Proficiency in digital tools for targeted and wider audience outreach.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, both internally and externally.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Competency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project).
