Health, Safety, Quality and Environment (HSQE) Advisor
£% Bonus
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health, Safety, Quality and Environment (HSQE) Advisor to join a leading and fast-growing UK-based energy business. This company plays a pivotal role in supporting the National Grid and enabling the transition to renewable energy sources through innovative power and grid stability projects across over 80 UK sites.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of HSQE and take a proactive leadership role in embedding a culture of health, safety, and environmental excellence across the business. The role covers diverse energy infrastructure projects including reciprocating gas engines, battery storage, solar, wind and synchronous condensers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and operational HSQE leadership across all levels of the organisation.
- Develop and implement health and safety systems aligned with ISO and 50001 standards.
- Lead the delivery of a company-wide safety culture and change programme.
- Advise management teams, employees and external contractors on best safety practices and legal compliance.
- Design and deliver HSQE-related training and audit regimes.
- Collaborate with HR on employee wellbeing, including mental health and risk assessment support.
- Ensure up-to-date compliance with all current and upcoming safety legislation.
- Monitor, evaluate and enhance performance using key HSQE metrics.
- Support and mentor internal HSQE officers to ensure robust implementation of safety systems.
- Represent the business in industry bodies and external forums.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Strong technical knowledge of health and safety legislation.
- Demonstrable experience influencing safety culture within power or renewables sectors.
- Experience delivering change management and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to lead, coach and collaborate across departments.
Desirable:
- ISO 14001 & 9001 implementation experience.
- Knowledge of alternative technologies (battery, solar).
- Familiarity with extra high voltage transmission connections.
- Proficient in digital safety and management systems.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable:
- NEBOSH Diploma or NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction.
- Management qualification.
Additional Information
- Location: Flexible/Hybrid working model with frequent travel across the UK required.
