Senior Finance Manager Southwark Council is seeking an experienced interim Senior Finance manager for a 6-9 months assignment within Children and Adults services supporting Adults social care (OP/PD), Public Health and Commissioning. The role requires to manage a team of 2 divisional accountant, 1 accountant and a CIPFA trainee.

Senior Finance Manager The post holder is expected to provide senior financial leadership and business partnering support to adults social care, public health and commissioning. The Job is Hybrid based at Southwark council Tooley street office with expecations of attend in person 50% of the time.

key responsibilities: Senior Finance Manager

  • act as senior business partner to Director of Public Health and commissioning, providing expert advice on budgets, forecasts, savings and financial risk
  • oversee budget management, financial reporting and statutory compliance
  • lead on management of grants including Better Care Fund, Section 75 and Section 256 agreements as well as returns in relation to the Public Health grant
  • liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including health partners and auditors as required
  • The post holder will be working closely with Senior Finance manager for Adults social care (MH/LD, central) to support the service areas.
  • Essential Experience & Skills
  • Significant experience in local government finance, ideally within Adult Social Care, commissioning, and Public Health.
  • Strong background in budget management, financial planning, and financial reporting.
  • Experience of managing staff and working at a senior level with Directors and elected Members.
  • Knowledge of local authority funding, grants, and pooled budget arrangements.
  • Confident communicator with strong analytical, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a politically sensitive environment and manage competing priorities.
  • Qualifications
  • CCAB or CIMA qualified, or part-qualified with substantial and relevant local authority finance experience.
