Temporary Accommodation Officer

📍 London (On-site initially, moving to hybrid)
💼 Contract Role

We're currently working with a forward-thinking London local authority to recruit an experienced Temporary Accommodation Officer to support a busy Housing Needs service.

This is an excellent opportunity for a housing professional with strong knowledge of homelessness legislation and temporary accommodation placements to join a high-performing team.

🔑 The Role

You will be responsible for the allocation, management, and monitoring of temporary accommodation placements, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and delivering a high-quality service to homeless households.

Initially, the role will be fully office-based to support onboarding and training, with the opportunity to move to a hybrid working arrangement following a successful first few weeks.

🧩 Key Responsibilities

* Managing the allocation and letting of temporary accommodation in line with legislation

* Coordinating placements and minimising the use of Bed & Breakfast accommodation

* Carrying out suitability assessments in line with the Housing Act 1996

* Liaising with landlords and accommodation providers

* Conducting property inspections and ensuring compliance with HHSRS standards

* Managing refusals, reviews, and discharge of duty decisions

* Supporting households within temporary accommodation and working with partner agencies

* Assisting with legal processes, including preparing reports and attending court where required

✅ Requirements

* Proven experience working within Temporary Accommodation / Housing Needs

* Strong understanding of homelessness legislation, including:

* Housing Act 1996

* Homelessness Reduction Act 2017

* Experience managing placements and working with landlords or managing agents

* Ability to carry out property inspections

* Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a busy caseload
