Job Title: Principal Civil Engineer

Overview:

We are working with a highly regarded civil and structural engineering consultancy known for delivering innovative, sustainable, and client-focused solutions across sectors including residential, commercial, education, and infrastructure. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are now seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to lead, mentor, and drive excellence within their Civil Engineering team.

Role Summary:

As Principal Civil Engineer, you will play a pivotal leadership role in the business—managing complex projects, guiding junior engineers, liaising with key stakeholders, and driving technical excellence. This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior-level engineer who is ready to take the next step in their career or for an experienced Principal looking to join a forward-thinking, design-led consultancy.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the delivery of civil engineering projects from concept through to detailed design and construction.
Provide technical leadership across drainage, highways, flood risk, and earthworks design.
Oversee project resourcing, budgeting, programming, and client communication.
Mentor and support the development of graduate and mid-level engineers.
Contribute to business development efforts through client engagement and proposal writing.
Ensure all work complies with relevant regulations, standards, and health & safety requirements.
Work collaboratively with the structural, BIM, and environmental teams to deliver integrated solutions.

Requirements:

Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (CEng or IEng) with ICE or equivalent.
Strong background in drainage, highway design, and flood risk assessment (MicroDrainage, Civil 3D, etc.).
Proven project leadership experience, including managing teams and interfacing with clients.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Commercially astute with a focus on quality and efficiency.
