Company: ROBERTSON BELL
Job Type: Permanent, FullTime
Salary: £80,000 - £83,000 per annum
Are you a technically strong accountant with experience producing statutory accounts? Do you enjoy working with talented teams and nurturing high standards? Ready to step into a pivotal role at the heart of a complex, high-value finance operation? If yes, this could be the role for you!
We’re supporting a public sector organisation with a significant national remit to recruit a new Financial Controller on a permanent basis. This is a broad and hands-on role within a small, well-rounded finance team, offering the opportunity to lead on statutory accounting and financial reporting while supporting strategic planning and continuous improvement. With high-value transactions and a strong internal control environment, this is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in a dynamic and high-performing setting.
The key duties of this Financial Controller will be as follows:
- Producing statutory accounts for both operational and fund accounts, including lead schedules and year-end reporting
- Reviewing trial balances and ensuring accurate ongoing financial reporting throughout the year
- Managing a small team, reviewing their work and signing off transactions and reconciliations
- Taking ownership of quarterly board reporting and budget monitoring reports for the SMT
- Playing a key role in the development of the medium-term financial plan
- Supporting the Head of Finance in financial modelling and preparing returns, reports and accounts under the relevant standards
- Being a key contact for external audit and supporting the audit process
- Identifying and implementing process improvements across financial controls and reporting
You’ll be joining an organisation with an impressive investment portfolio, clear strategic plans, and a genuine commitment to developing its people. The team are experienced and highly capable, but due to growth and ongoing demands, they need someone to step in and take a lead on the technical financial accounting side. If you’re someone who takes pride in getting things right, can manage up and down, and want to be part of a team that values quality and collaboration, this could be the perfect fit.
The successful candidate will be:
- A fully qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
- Experienced in producing statutory accounts and supporting year-end close
- Skilled in reviewing trial balances, budget preparation and financial controls
- A confident team manager or supervisor, able to give constructive feedback and lead with a positive mindset
- Motivated, collaborative and detail-driven – someone who takes ownership and delivers to a high standard
- Ideally, from the public sector, but candidates from other sectors are still strongly encouraged to apply
