This highly accredited global manufacturer seeks an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established engineering team who work within a strict ISO 9001-certified environment. Your key responsibilities will take on the key lead for all design-for-manufacture initiatives across a diverse portfolio of hydraulic and industrial power systems tailored for the aerospace, defence (MOD), and high-performance engineering sectors. Ideally seeking a Degree Educated Mechanical Engineering candidate (or similar), combining an element of electrical design with manufacturing prototype experience.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, your key responsibilities will include the total adherence to strict ISO quality standards across all design and order-processing activities
Use 3D CAD software (NX, Inventor, AutoCAD) to full capability for part modelling, assemblies, and detailed drawings
Apply design-for-manufacture and assembly principles for efficient production
Conduct FEA and FMEA analysis to ensure design integrity and safety
Project manage development of new and bespoke products, including layout production and component improvements
Utilise Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) to deliver cost-effective design solutions
Generate technical documentation including material specs, IOM manuals, and detailed reports
Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including kaizen events
Foster strong, productive relationships across departments
Proactively address skills gaps with continuous learning

Support broader engineering activities, which may include test facility work or UK/international supplier visits
Relevant Skills and Experience

Minimum 3-5 years' mechanical design experience in a 3D CAD environment
Familiarity with FEA software (preferred)
Experience in rotating machinery design (preferred)
Adaptability and resilience in meeting project deadlines
Team-oriented mindset with a proactive and positive approach
Education & Qualifications

Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred or time served apprenticeship
Minimum HNC/HND in a relevant discipline with suitable industry experience
Proficiency in 3D CAD packages is essential
