We're working with a fast-growing, forward-thinking technology organisation who are seeking a proven Commercial Manager with Defence sector experience for a pivotal role driving commercial excellence across a growing portfolio.

  • Role: Commercial Manager
  • Pay: £70,000 - £80,000 (bonus & benefits)
  • Location: Portsmouth
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid 2/3 days (occasional overseas travel)
  • Ability to obtain SC clearance

In this role you will provide end-to-end commercial leadership from opportunity identification and bid support to contract negotiation, supplier management, delivery oversight, and contract close-out.

You'll help embed robust commercial governance, support our expanding international work, and enable the company to scale sustainably and strategically.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide full lifecycle commercial and contractual leadership across bids and live projects.
  • Ensure strong commercial governance, compliance with defence sector regulations, and effective risk management.
  • Lead customer and supplier negotiations, supporting high-value international and UK contracts.
  • Translate business strategy into practical commercial solutions.
  • Strengthen supply chain resilience, supplier performance, and commercial best practice across the organisation.
  • Represent the organisation in a senior commercial capacity across the UK and internationally

The successful candidate will operate in a fast-paced SME environment where no two days are the same. This role is both hands-on and strategic, offering genuine influence, autonomy, and visibility at the highest levels of the business.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong commercial management experience within the defence sector.
  • Solid understanding of defence contracting, terms & conditions, regulatory frameworks, and industry trends.
  • Excellent negotiation, financial acumen, and commercial decision-making skills.
  • Experience managing complex workloads in fast-moving environments.
  • Experience designing innovative commercial models.
  • Happy to travel across UK and internationally if required
