We are recruiting Graduate SEN Learning Support Assistants to work in specialist SEN schools across Bristol. This role is ideal for graduates from Art, English Language, Creative Writing, Media, Humanities or related subjects who are looking to apply their creativity in a meaningful, people-focused role.

You will support children and young people with Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), ADHD, communication difficulties and additional learning needs, using creative and engaging approaches to help them access education.

This position provides excellent hands-on experience for graduates considering careers in education, SEN, speech and language, mental health, psychology, therapy or youth work.

About the Role

As a Creative Graduate SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils 1:1 or in small groups within the classroom
  • Use creative approaches to support engagement and communication
  • Help pupils build confidence, emotional expression and social interaction
  • Support students with language development, reading, writing and communication
  • Assist with emotional regulation, routines and positive behaviour strategies
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams
  • Help create an inclusive, calm and supportive learning environment

Many pupils you support will benefit from creative communication methods and alternative ways of expressing thoughts, emotions and ideas.

Who This Role Is For

This role is particularly suited to graduates with degrees in:

  • Art
  • English Language or English Literature
  • Creative Writing
  • Media, Film or Journalism
  • Humanities or Social Sciences

You may also have experience through:

  • Volunteering or mentoring
  • Tutoring or youth work
  • Art workshops, creative projects or community work
  • Supporting children or young people in any setting

No formal teaching qualifications are required. Training and support are provided.

Essential Skills and Qualities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Creativity, patience and adaptability
  • Confidence engaging young people through conversation or creative activity
  • A calm, supportive approach to behaviour and emotional needs
  • Willingness to learn about SEN and inclusive education
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
Desirable (Not Essential)
  • Experience supporting children with SEN or additional needs
  • Interest in Autism, SEMH or communication support
  • Knowledge of behaviour support or trauma-informed practice
  • Safeguarding or first aid training
  • Interest in progressing into education or therapeutic roles
