Berneslai Homes has an exciting opportunity for a Fire Safety Officer to join our team based at Gateway Plaza in Barnsley, with the option to also work agilely. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis working 37 hours per week. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £32,234 - £34,728 including a market supplement of £3,000.

The Fire Safety Officer role:

As our Fire Safety Officer, you will work within our Repairs Maintenance and Building Safety team acting as the named responsible person for the company as defined in the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005.

Your role will be to carry out quality assurance checks of Fire Risk Assessments received from external consultants prior to uploading to our data management system. You will also be responsible for monitoring and reporting Fire Risk Assessment Actions to the Executive Management Team.

Key duties and responsibilities of our Fire Safety Officer:

Supporting the Building Safety Manager in ensuring fire safety compliance across Berneslai Homes housing stock is managed and in line with the requirements set out in the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005

Leading, motivating, and engaging with your team to ensure the delivery of a high-quality service

Ensuring that all Fire Risk Assessments are adequate and up to date, and that all recommendations and identified actions are completed in full and in a timely manner

Managing and controlling fire risk assessments being carried out by external fire consultants

Monitoring and measuring performance as part of the wider health, safety, and compliance framework

Monitoring any recommendations made in Fire Risk Assessments and where applicable

Being responsible for checking through the recommendations raised in Fire Risk Assessments for appropriateness

Visiting premises periodically between fire risk assessments to ensure fire safety and standards of fire prevention are maintained

Being responsible for managing and monitoring all cyclical maintenance programmes and managing recommendations

Overseeing the management of projects such as Sprinkler Installations, attend monitoring and budget meetings for such projects

Maintain a close working relationship with local fire station officers

Provide technical advice and guidance across the business in relation to all aspects of fire safety

Be an ambassador for fire safety across the organisation

Qualifications and experience we're looking for in our Fire Safety Officer:

Level 3 IFE qualification or relevant equivalent professional qualification

NEBOSH Level 3 in Fire Safety and Risk Management or willing to obtain within 12 months of employment

Membership of a Professional Body (i.e. ASCP/IFE/IFSM)

Knowledge of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005, Fire Safety Act 2021 & Draft Building Safety Bill

Knowledge of Part B or the Building Regulations (Fire Safety)

Experience in managing a team and a proven track record of achieving required performance

Knowledge of Quality Systems such as IIP

Experience of working with IT systems and software packages
