Outreach Tutor (SEN Functional Skills - Post-16)

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Prospero Teaching is looking for an experienced Outreach Tutor to deliver personalised Functional Skills sessions in English and Maths to post-16 learners with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is a part-time opportunity (10-15 hours per week) based in the Barking and Dagenham area.

You will work on a 1:1 basis with young people who are currently not attending mainstream education. As an Outreach Tutor, you will be expected to plan, prepare, and deliver bespoke lessons that bridge gaps in education, rebuild confidence, and re-engage learners in their academic journey.

Most students will have complex learning needs and EHCPs, and many may have been out of education for some time. You must be patient, nurturing, and adaptable in your approach, tailoring lessons to meet individual learning styles and abilities. This role is ideal for a teacher or tutor who is passionate about making a difference outside the traditional classroom setting.

Prospero Teaching will provide ongoing support and guidance to ensure high-quality delivery and measurable student progress.

CONTRACT/POSITION DETAILS

Location - Barking and Dagenham (and surrounding areas)
Position - Outreach Tutor (SEN Functional Skills - Post-16)
Type of work - 1:1 Tuition (English and Maths Functional Skills)
Start date - ASAP
Duration / Likely Duration - Dependent on each student's package
Contract type - Temporary (ongoing depending on student needs)
Full time/part time - Part-time (10 to 15 hours per week)
Minimum rate of pay - £25 per hour
Hours - Sessions typically between 1-3 hours, flexible across the weekEXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, PGCE, or relevant Level 5+ teaching qualification
Experience working with SEN learners, especially post-16 students
Knowledge of the Functional Skills curriculum (English and Maths)
Experience in delivering education to students outside mainstream settings is highly desirableTO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:

Hold Right to Work in the UK
Hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS certificate registered with the Update Service, or be willing to apply for a new one
Provide two professional, child-related references covering the last two yearsOTHER
