We are seeking a temporary Placements Officer for a University in East London

  • Hourly rate: £23.66ph
  • Location: East London
  • Job Type: Full-time - Hybrid

This role is crucial in supporting and expanding the placement programmes for this East London university. The successful candidate will work closely with the Faculty Education Manager, School Manager, Programme Directors and external stakeholders

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Develop and implement systems for the administration of industrial placements, including creating guidance for students and developing relevant Quality Assurance paperwork.
  • Set up and service meetings and working groups as required, ensuring follow-up actions are taken.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with external employers, Many of whom are high profile, maintaining expert knowledge of placement opportunities and practices to set up opportunities for students.
  • Collaborate with the Careers and Enterprise Office to ensure a unified approach when liaising with industrial employers and organise placement-focused events.
  • Manage the careers module for students on a 'with a year in industry' degree course, organising workshops, group meetings, and assignments to support students' professional growth and placement search.
  • Support, train, and provide guidance and pastoral support to students in finding and applying for suitable placements.
  • Ensure that potential employers have undergone appropriate approval processes by reviewing employment contracts and safety measures.
  • Support students during their placement programme, providing advice and guidance as needed.
  • Sustain relationships with external employers to maintain existing placement opportunities.
  • Visit or contact students and managers during their placement period to monitor progress.
  • Administer and oversee the assessment of placements, including setting up assessment guidance and marking criteria.
  • Ensure international students on the programme meet the UK’s immigration requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within an educational setting.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with the ability to develop and implement effective systems.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing educational modules and providing pastoral support.
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance processes and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
