Job Purpose

The Project Manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of key projects within the Council's project portfolio. The role will involve scoping, planning, executing, and closing projects that support the Council's strategic aims, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the expected quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, manage, and deliver assigned projects using appropriate project management methodologies.

Define project scope, goals, deliverables, and success criteria in collaboration with stakeholders.

Develop and maintain detailed project documentation, including project plans, risk registers, and progress reports.

Monitor project performance and provide regular updates to sponsors, stakeholders, and governance boards.

Manage project budgets, resources, and timelines effectively.

Identify and mitigate risks, issues, and dependencies throughout the project lifecycle.

Ensure stakeholder engagement and effective communication at all stages of the project.

Lead multi-disciplinary project teams, fostering collaboration and accountability.

Ensure compliance with local authority policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.

Support the development and continuous improvement of project management practices within the team.

Key Skills and Experience

Proven track record of successfully delivering projects in a complex organisational environment.

Experience of working in or with public sector organisations, preferably local government.

Strong understanding of project management principles and methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2, Agile).

Excellent organisational and time-management skills.

Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

Effective communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
