We're working with a respected local authority to recruit a Caseworker for their Discretionary Financial Support Services team. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated service supporting vulnerable and low-income individuals across the Sunderland Area.
The Role:
You'll be responsible for carrying out financial and situational assessments for applicants seeking support through Discretionary Housing Payments, Local Welfare Provision, and other discretionary schemes. The role requires empathy, attention to detail, and the ability to make informed decisions in line with DWP guidance and local policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Assess applications and manage a personal caseload
Deliver excellent customer service and communicate outcomes clearly
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners
Accurately record and report case data
What We're Looking For:
Experience or working knowledge of welfare benefits and discretionary support schemes
Strong interpersonal and IT skills, including MS Office
Confident decision-making and case management abilities
Flexible, organised, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
Please Note: This role is subject to a DBS check.
Expected Hours: Full time (37 hours)
Contract: Sept 25 - March 26 (with expectation of extension)
Rate of pay: £15-£19/ph.
