The Opportunity

We are working on behalf of a growing consultancy to recruit a Principal Designer based in Bristol. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced CDM professional to take a lead role on a diverse range of projects across the housing, education, and commercial sectors.

You'll be responsible for delivering Principal Designer services, supporting the development of the business in the region, and providing expert health and safety advice throughout the design and construction phases. This role offers autonomy, project variety, and the chance to influence health and safety culture across the built environment.

What You'll Be Doing

Advise clients on their duties under CDM 2015

Act as the Principal Designer and main point of contact on allocated projects

Engage with design teams to identify and mitigate design risks

Manage and compile pre-construction information

Conduct design risk reviews and ensure legal compliance across the project lifecycle

Coordinate with key stakeholders to maintain safety standards at every stage

Prepare and issue project-specific Health & Safety files upon completion

Provide internal CDM and health and safety advice to design and project teams

What You'll Bring

A construction-related degree (or equivalent qualification)

A minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience in a relevant role

Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015, L144, and industry best practices

Membership of a professional body (e.g. APS, IOSH, or working towards)

Solid understanding of design and construction processes

Experience working in a consultancy environment and on multi-discipline projects

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Proven ability to manage your own workload effectively
