Job summary:

Amherst Homes Ltd is a specialist house builder who pride themselves in producing high quality and bespoke homes. We have numerous projects underway in the Cambridgeshire area currently, with many more planned throughout 2018/2019, and beyond, in the East Anglia region. Our need is in direct correlation with the companies’ growth and success; expanding our team as we increase our site acquisitions and as our new developments grow. Our Head office is based in the beautiful market town of Saffron Walden, where the role would be based.

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will be working alongside the Commercial Manager within the busy Commercial department. The successful Assistant Quantity Surveyor candidate will have knowledge of a wide range of construction materials and subcontractors, from groundworks to finishing trades. They will be responsible for ensuring the company’s supply chain runs smoothly and to maximum budgetary effect; so excellent negotiating skills are a must. The role will be working under pressure and to tight deadlines, so the right candidate needs to be organised and efficient.

Duties and responsibilities (but not limited to):


·Assist placing orders for labour and materials and to ensure the business output is delivered within budget.


·Work alongside other departments to ensure project viability.


·Improve cost effectiveness.


·Ensure all specifications are complied with and that quality is not compromised.


·Assist in completing invoicing and payments


·Resolve any issues arising regarding invoices and payments.


·Assist with cash flow forecasting.


·Assist in monitoring, reconcile and recharge any cost.


·Preparation of site budgets.


·Maintaining the development budget using both Eque2 and Excel.


·Managing valuations, specifications and attending meetings on site.


·Promoting and acting in accordance with company values, systems, policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Experience required:


·Previous Quantity Surveyor experience as a trainee or assistant level-Minimum of 4 years (Residential/Development experience is a must)


·BSc in Quantity Surveying is a must (or we will consider a candidate on day release currently studying towards a BSc or HNC/HND if they have the previous working experience as a Trainee or Assistant QS)


·Ability to prioritise, manage and organise workload


·Diligence and good cost control skills


·Excellent negotiating abilities


·A concise communicator able to liaise across a range of subcontractors and senior management.


·Excellent written skills.


·IT literate (Outlook, Word & Excel, previous use of Eque2 advantageous)
