Instructional Designer

Job Description


This position is responsible for assisting in the development and authoring of training materials. This position will work closely with other instructional designers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design and write e-learning and instructor-led learning materials.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Leads projects from start to finish with minimal supervision to meet deadlines as assigned

•Works closely with manager and other instructional designers as needed to share knowledge and maintain a well-organized, timely and high-quality work product

•Works closely with SMEs/testers to design and develop content, test courseware and troubleshoot issues that may impact design or established deadlines

•Applies adult learning principles and effective e-learning techniques to create instructional design documents, e-learning storyboards and instructor/facilitator/participant materials

•Identifies and solves a variety of problems of greater scope and complexity

•Takes responsibility for own actions and works accordingly to get the job done

•Writes learning objectives and modules of content that ensure mastery of learning objectives

•Tests own courses within the Learning Management Test Systems to confirm formatting, spelling/grammar, functionality and scoring

•Works with Articulate/Lectora Development team as assigned to produce lesson

•Maintains a current technical skillset with proficiency in software applications applicable to instructional design and development/authoring

•Ensures matters related to client or potential clients are handled in a way that creates positive lasting impressions with high quality, prompt and courteous service by oneself and others

•Works collaboratively with teammates to learn Miller Creative branding and design practices and department procedures and the use of authoring guidelines and templates

•Takes on other duties as assigned and as needed with a positive and willing attitude

•Flexibility to shift focus in a fast-paced environment with continually changing priorities


Technical Skills:

•Solid instructional design expertise for e-learning and blended learning

•Intermediate working knowledge of authoring tools used to create interactive instructional materials such as Articulate Storyline (preferred), Lectora Inspire or the equivalent

•Working knowledge of integrating audio, video, simulations and animations using e-learning development tools such as Camtasia SnagIt (preferred) or equivalent

•Working knowledge of WebEx, Skype for Business and similar web conferencing tools and the design of synchronous learning events

•Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

•Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills

•Intermediate skill with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint

•Knowledge of HTML a plus

•Experience using Basecamp and Dropbox


Education/Work Experience:

•Bachelor’s Degree in instructional design, education or related field or commensurate work experience required

•At least 3-4+ years of relevant experience - strong knowledge of instructional design principles and th

•Experience working in a corporate or professional services environment with experience designing training systems, procedures and programs desired

• Experience leading multiple projects concurrently with strong track record of on time and on target project completion.

• Communicate frequently with co-workers as well as with managers to discern their needs, and be able to express themselves

• Work as a member of a team as well as be a self-motivator with ability to work independently

• Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment to coordinate work

• Usually remains stationary for the majority of the day

• Frequently communicates with clients and coworkers and must be able to share information effectively

• Generally works in an office environment
