An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading building services consultancy working within a specialist critical systems team.

This role offers the chance to lead the delivery of technically complex mechanical building services projects, with a strong focus on Stage 4 detailed design and high-performance engineering solutions.

The successful Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will play a key role in technical leadership, project delivery and team coordination, contributing to innovative and high-quality building services designs across critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

Leading the delivery of mechanical building services design projects
Producing and reviewing Stage 4 detailed design documentation
Developing HVAC system designs, calculations and technical specifications
Providing technical leadership across project teams and design delivery
Collaborating with electrical engineers, structural engineers and architects
Supporting BIM coordination and multidisciplinary design integration
Ensuring designs meet industry standards, regulations and client requirements
Managing project delivery in line with programme, budget and quality targets
Mentoring and supporting junior and intermediate engineers

Requirements

To be considered for this Principal Mechanical Design Engineer role, candidates should have:

Proven experience working as a Senior or Principal Mechanical Design Engineer within building services
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical design principles
Experience delivering projects across RIBA Stage 4 detailed design
Experience working within consultancy or multidisciplinary engineering environments
Strong leadership, communication and coordination skills
Ability to manage technical delivery and project teamsDesirable:

Experience working on critical systems or mission-critical environments
Progression towards or achievement of Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
Experience using Revit or BIM software
