Excellent package and development opportunities
Due to an excellent flow of work and new client wins this firm is looking to hire an additional head into its established Tax Disputes & Investigations team. They're looking for someone with solid experience in contentious tax matters - someone who understands what it's like to navigate complex HMRC investigations and provide practical, confident advice when it matters most. You may even work for HMRC and are looking to make the move into consulting.
This team supports both internal stakeholders and external clients, covering everything from compliance checks to serious investigations under Code of Practice 8 and 9. They also help clients make voluntary disclosures through the Digital Disclosure Service or Contractual Disclosure Facility and deal with disputed liabilities through ADR, statutory review, or tribunal where needed.
What you'd get involved with:
-
Reviewing whether HMRC's enquiry has been validly opened
-
Advising on the best way to engage with HMRC
-
Working out what HMRC can legitimately request, and what clients need to provide
-
Helping explain complex matters clearly and strategically
-
Recalculating liabilities for failure to notify situations
-
Advising on penalty positions and how to mitigate them
-
Supporting claims for overpaid tax
-
End-to-end management of contentious disputes
It's a good fit if you:
-
Are ATT / CTA qualified (or have HMRC background)
-
Know your way around CoP9 and CoP8 cases
-
Are confident advising on voluntary disclosures, ADR, over-payment relief, discovery assessments
-
Enjoy strategic thinking and dealing with complexity
There's a strong team already in place, so this is a chance to come in at Assistant Manager level with support, but also room to grow and develop.
