Marks Consulting Partners are currently looking for a Building Surveyor to work with one of our Local Authority clients in East Sussex.

What the job will be doing

  • To investigate and find resolution to complaints against the Housing Investment & Asset Management service, considering clients interests.
  • Manage and investigate insurance claims submitted against the Housing Investment & Asset Management service, where residents’ belongings may have been damaged due to poor/lack of repairs to their property.
  • To investigate, document and assess the level of damage and legitimacy of claims, liaising with the customer services team manager on any compensation amounts payable.
  • To carry out joint visits to housing stock with other departments (housing management & repairs service) when identifying potentially vulnerable residents or post inspecting repair works.
  • To respond to property queries from the public, outside organisations, elected members, client officers and departments, investigate or initiate investigations as necessary and satisfy any need for further action in relation to property ownership, encroachment, party wall issues, Freedom of Information requests etc.
  • Responsible for compiling reports from land inspections accurately detailing any issues or potential development opportunities found that could benefit client. You will be expected to also detail reasons why areas of land are suitable to sell and give justification for any recommendations for selling and suggested costs.
  • To investigate any enquiries, provide the Housing Investment and Asset Investment customer team with clear responses and resolution to any issues identified and to effectively and efficiently manage all engagement with customers, external consultants and staff to ensure a consistent high level of customer satisfaction is achieved.

What you will need

  • A thorough knowledge of building construction and the terminology used in repair and maintenance of buildings.
  • A working knowledge of the Building Regulations.
  • A working knowledge of domestic services and service engineering.
  • Demonstrable experience of surveying, recording surveyed information and constructing and writing specifications for works, and technical reports.
  • An understanding of the Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
