SEMH School / Alternative Provision

A small, growing and increasingly popular SEMH school and alternative provision in the Thatcham/Tilehurst area is seeking a dedicated and experienced Level 3 (or equivalent) Teaching Assistant to join their team on a permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and who thrives in a nurturing, relationship-centred educational environment.

About the Setting

The provision supports learners who benefit from:

  • A highly individualised curriculum
  • A therapeutic, trauma-informed approach
  • Small class groups and personalised interventions
  • A supportive, skilled and collaborative staff team

As a growing provision, there is a strong focus on building positive relationships, promoting emotional regulation, and helping pupils re-engage with learning in a safe, structured and caring environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide high-quality support to students with SEMH needs
  • Work in small groups and on a 1:1 basis to deliver personalised learning
  • Foster positive relationships that build trust, confidence and resilience
  • Assist with behaviour support using consistent, supportive and restorative approaches
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, mentors and pastoral staff
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and motivating learning environment

Essential Requirements

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent recognised qualification)
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs or barriers to learning
  • A calm, patient and emotionally resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve positive outcomes

What the School Offers

  • A permanent, stable and rewarding position
  • A small, supportive and forward-thinking staff team
  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development
  • A chance to help shape a growing and impactful SEMH provision
  • The satisfaction of making a meaningful difference to young people who need it most

This role would suit someone who is passionate about inclusive education and ready to contribute to a nurturing and dynamic alternative provision environment.
